The Parable of the Tenants is an adaptation of Matthew 21:33-46, Mark 12: 1-12 and Luke 20:9-19
A man built a house. Put central heating in, added double glazing, installed a video entry system, everything. Then he rented the house out while he was travelling.
When the rent was due, he sent the house agent to the tenants to collect the rent, but those tenants, they grabbed the agent, they beat the guy up and then they sent him away with no money.
The man tried again. Another house agent – she got a blow to the head and a good kicking. Tried again, sent still another house agent – they killed that one! The man kept trying, sent loads of other agents, some got beaten up, some got killed.
Finally, he was left with one person to sent, his son -and he loved his boy. He sent him last of the lot, thinking ‘they’ve got to respect my son.’
But the tenants, they said to each other, ‘This guy’s the heir. Come on, if we kill him they’ll never get us out of this house.’ So they grabbed him, killed him and threw the body out of the house to the pavement below.
So what’s the owner of the house going to do? He’s going to come with the police – and the army if he has to – and if they need to kill those tenants they will. And then, he’ll give the house to somebody else.
