Ravens and Flowers is based upon Matthew 6.25-33

So I’m telling you, don’t worry about going hungry or thirsty, how you’ll live or what you’ll wear. Life’s more than food and our bodies are more than the clothes we wear.

Look at the ravens. They don’t plant vegetable gardens, do they? Ever seen one picking a tomato, or popping it in the fridge? But that father of ours in heaven, he feeds them. So aren’t you worth more than a raven? All the worrying you do, can it add a single hour to your life?

And why are you worrying about fashion? Seen any wildflowers? Seen any of them working hard? Have you ever noticed one with a little paintbrush in its leaf, painting its petals? But those wildflowers in full bloom are glitzier than the Queen was at her coronation! And if God dresses wildflowers like that, flowers that are alive one day and on the compost heap the next, do you think he won’t make sure you’ve something to wear? Or are you a bunch of doubters?

So don’t worry! Don’t ask yourself, ‘how am I going to buy food, or keep the utilities on, or buy clothes?’ The people who put those things first are non-believers. Your father in heaven knows you do need food and clothing, yes, but what you should be working for is God’s nation, for being right with God. Put that before anything else and you will get the stuff you need.
